I have spent close to a decade teaching young adults. Before graduate school, I was an educator in a private center that specialized in teaching logical reasoning skills. I have also worked as an SAT/ GRE instructor. I am interested in teaching courses related to the specialties of syntax, semantics, morphology and phonology at both introductory and advanced levels.
I will be teaching the following courses at the National University of Singapore in 2018/2019. Language Typology Grammatical Analysis (Graduate course) Syntax
See my CV for a list of courses I have taught before.
Teaching Philosophy I take my responsibility as a teacher to be the following:
develop an environment where students are free to air opinions, questions, and comments without fear of rejection,
give students a vested interest in what they learn either through eliciting judgments from them or by encouraging them to reflect on how they use language in their own lives in class presentations and assignments.
equip students with the modes of reasoning and analytical skills that linguists often employ. These skills are independent of linguistic research and have wide applicability in students' academic and personal lives.
strive to improve myself as a teacher constantly. This is why I place importance on student evaluations and faculty observation reports. These are essential sources of feedback for me.
